Overview

Over the past few months, the team at Hammer Missions has been actively developing our Android-compatible Hammer Missions platform to bring you the functionality from our iOS App directly to the Android Platform.

Hammer Missions on Android is available now on the Google Play Store worldwide.

You can also request access to our Hammer Missions Android App for testing purposes.

Click the link below to request access:

We currently have a selection of missions, but we will be expanding our modules to cover all those included in our current iOS App.

This article will cover those missions we currently support in Android and the future mission modules that will be added...

Android App

Missions

Highlighted below are the Missions that are currently available in our latest Android release:

Linear Mapping

This mission is useful for surveying gas pipelines/railroads and other resources that appear linear in geometry from a height, rivers for instance. In this mission, Hammer calculates picture points on top of a user-defined line and flies the drone to these points maintaining a constant altitude throughout the mission. The drone adjusts its heading to match the line’s heading and takes a high-resolution picture of the linear structure. This mission is different to Linear Inspection as the drone does not stop to take pictures in this mission and rather captures the pictures while flying continuously from point to point.

Mapping

This type of mission is useful for collecting images to create maps/orthomosaics of an area, for example, farms, construction sites, quarries, etc. In this mission, Hammer generates a lawn mowing flight path inside the user-defined shape, flies the drone along the generated flight path, and takes pictures continuously, maintaining the correct image overlap in between pictures.

Tower Mission

This mission module is useful for capturing 3D mapping data for any structure that has a tower-like profile for example pylons, cell towers, water towers, etc. In this mission, Hammer calculates a flight path around the tower based on the altitudes and distances provided by the user. This is done by keeping the correct picture overlap into account so that the resulting photos can be used for inspection and/or a 3D model.

Facade Inspection

This mission is useful for inspecting building walls/façades and other vertical structures such as cliffs, waterfalls, etc. In this mission, Hammer calculates picture points inside a vertical frame placed at a fixed distance from the building/vertical structure. From a top-down view, this is visualised as a line generated parallel to the building. Hammer then flies the drone from top to bottom in altitude on this line, taking a picture with the camera facing forwards.

3D Modelling

This type of mission is useful for creating 3D models of an area for example farms, construction sites, structures/assets, etc. In this mission, Hammer generates a double-grid flight path inside the user-defined shape, flies the drone along the generated flight path, and takes pictures continuously, maintaining the correct image overlap in between pictures.

The 3D Mapping Mission will be updated in a future release to include automatic obliques giving you a higher quality data output.

Features

Video Integration

Like our iOS App, the Android App has a fully integrated video feed direct from the drone's camera so that you can monitor your camera output during the flight.

Supported Drones

Our Android App supports some of the latest drones from DJI, these include:

DJI Mavic Series:

  • Mavic Pro

  • Mavic Air

  • Mavic 2 Pro

  • Mavic 2 Zoom

  • Mavic 2 Enterprise

  • Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual

(Smart Controller for Mavic 2 currently not supported)

DJI Phantom Series

  • Phantom 3 Standard Advanced, 4K & Professional

  • Phantom 4

  • Phantom 4 Pro

  • Matrice 200

  • Matrice 210

Saving and Retrieving Missions

Hammer Missions Android App has the ability to save and retrieve mission files so that you are able to pre-plan your mission directly in the app, save that mission, and take it to the field.

The folder icon on the right holds your saved missions, highlighted here in red

Once you open this folder you will find your saved missions and will have the ability to create new mission files and folders.

Android App Future Updates

As we continue to develop our Android App we will be releasing a host of new features, keep checking the Hammer Missions site for future updates.
